2005-2006 Volunteers of the Year!

Joshua Foley, Organization Committee, Volunteer of the Year 2005-2006

Kerin Woods, chair of the Organization Committee, has selected Joshua Foley as Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his work as chair of the website redesign subcommittee. Under his leadership, the subcommittee has redesigned the website with four categories: Live, Work, Play, and About. Text and photos were added, helping to promote downtown. Josh is an attorney at Waller, Smith & Palmer on Eugene O'Neill Drive in New London, where he practices in the areas of municipal law, and land use and zoning.

Marybeth Quaadgras, Design Committee, Volunteer of the Year 2005-2006

Dana Amore, chair of the Design Committee, has selected Marybeth Quaadgras as Volunteer of the Year for her ability to manage projects through to completion. Marybeth, a chemical engineer by training, mentored a Connecticut College intern last fall on the Signal Flags project and tackled a second to design and install a sign for Mystic Whaler at Waterfront Park. With timelines and budgets and great attention to detail, Marybeth gets things done right!

Elaine Stattler, Economic Enhancement Committee, Volunteer of the Year 2005-2006

Jerry Sinnamon, chair of the Economic Enhancement Committee is pleased to name two Volunteers of the Year: Elaine Stattler and Shelley Wardwell. Both women were instrumental in revitalizing the committee and creating a focus for how to best support downtown businesses.

Elaine's leadership and determination brought to fruition a series of cooperative advertising displays in The Day.

Shelley Wardwell, Economic Enhancement Committee, Volunteer of the Year 2005-2006 speaking with Barun Basu, President, Board of Directors

Shelley's experiences in working on the cooperative ad project and in the recruitment of restaurants to participate in "Night Kitchens" led to the creation of a new subcommittee, the Business Liaison Team (BLT). Members of the BLT are assigned to specific downtown restaurants and businesses, serving as the primary liaison between those businesses and NLMS, increasing the ability of restaurants and merchants to take full advantage of downtown events.

Jean Brown, Promotion Committee, Volunteer of the Year 2005-2006

Penny Parsekian, acting chair of the Promotion Committee, has selected Jean Brown as Volunteer of the Year. When the Promotion Committee was seeking a chair at the beginning of the 2004-2005 fiscal year, Jean Brown stepped up to the plate and did the job for over a year, until her schedule would no longer allow it.

When Wet Paint Week needed a chair last year, Jean Brown joined forces with Jenn MacNeill and took on the event. When the 2006 Valentine's fundraiser needed leadership, Jean Brown agreed to provide it. Whenever something needs to get done, whether it be leading the charge or taking on a task, Jean's attitude is always, "What can I do to help?" Jean, who is the Director of Marketing for the Garde Arts Center, has given so much of her talent and time to the Promotion Committee that she well deserves to be our Volunteer of the Year!
