On the Move Again
The Atrium at Harris Place is the welcoming new location in which New London Main Street has created its new nook. On July 11, with the help of Rogovin Movers and several teams of volunteers, we moved from One Union Plaza, our home for the past 3 I/2 years. While there, we renovated and occupied two separate spaces, ultimately attracting other businesses to the desirable location at the corner of State Street and Eugene O'Neill Drive.
NLMS volunteer J.D. Diaz-Saavedra, along with assistance from teenager Ben Gibson, disassembled, moved, and reassembled several heavy items a few days before the official move in order to save time and money on moving day.
Volunteer Betty Cole worked with Penny Parsekian to establish six teams to move six distinct areas of the office in two hour shifts throughout the day. Betty, a retiree who volunteers her time at the Main Street office as well as at the Trolley Visitor Information Station, commented that this system worked very smoothly, as everyone knew what they needed to accomplish, and there were not too many people working at any one time.
On moving day, NLMS Board Member and Vice President Frank McLaughlin offered his truck to move boxes and other miscellaneous items. "Mostly I was a truck driver," said Frank.
Volunteer Tita Williams' job was to remove posters, awards and banners from the walls of the old location and to hang them in the new office space. New Board Member Gwen Basilica teamed up with Board Member and Organization Committee chair Kerin Woods to unpack and organize the supplies in the new space. Another new Board Member, Don Gibson , was responsible for moving the computers. We are grateful to our volunteers for their boundless energy and dedication!
