Dominion & JobTarget Sponsor Key Main Street Events

Two festivals are quickly becoming signature New London Main Street events: Fish Tales, Tugs & Sails (FTT&S), which was held August 11th, 2007, and Books, Brushes, Jazz & Blues (BBJ&B), to be held September 7th through 9th, 2007. Both events benefit from the support of local businesses.

Fish Tales, Tugs & Sails

Citing its strong support of education and the arts, Dominion was quick to sign up as one of several sponsors of this one-day children's festival held at the Waterfront Park. In addition to highlighting New London Main Street's revitalization efforts, the event promotes literacy and environmental issues and features nationally known authors, entertainers and boats.

"Dominion takes a regional approach to improving quality of life wherever it does business," says Dan Weekley, Dominion's Managing Director of Northeast Government Affairs. "New London is one of the communities in which our employees live and raise their families, and we strongly believe in doing what we can to help make New London a better place to live and work. We encourage employees to participate in the community, giving them the time they need to make a difference. Being part of this community means being involved in events that help sustain and improve the quality of life in southeastern Connecticut," Weekley adds.

Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers of energy; the company's Millstone Power Station in Waterford produces the equivalent of 45% of the electricity consumed in Connecticut. The company also serves retail energy customers in 11 states. Visit dom.com to learn more.

Books, Brushes, Jazz & Blues

As the sole sponsor of this event, JobTarget, a career services company headquartered in New London's downtown Historic Waterfront District, put its money where its mouth is. "Because JobTarget's operations are in downtown New London, we have a shared interest in the growth, revitalization and success of the area," says the firm's Founder and President, Andrew Banever. "We are responsible for providing our employees with an attractive, thriving area in which to work and live — so we are excited to help New London become the premier arts and entertainment district in the region."

BBJ&B will feature a show of artists who paint scenes of the District during the week prior to the festival, readings by regional authors, and blues and jazz performances at more than 10 downtown clubs and restaurants. With such a broad appeal that attracts a diverse audience, "this festival truly captures the unique culture of our hometown by bringing together the best artists, authors and musicians in the region and the state," Banever adds.

JobTarget assists job seekers by providing them with exclusive access to niche and specialty jobs that are not available on Monster and Careerbuilder. In addition, it provides local, state and national employers with unique hiring solutions and access to niche talent and passive job seekers. Interested in learning more? Check out jobtarget.com.
