Our state hero, Nathan Hale, taught in this school after leaving the quiet of Moodus in 1774 and stayed until 1775, when the Revolutionary War started. It was built as the Union School by the city leaders as they wanted a proper school for their children. Maintained by the Connecticut Sons of the American Revolution.
