Spirit Gallery Partners with Wolf Conservation Center
The Wolf Conservation Center (WCC) of New York has partnered with Spirit Gallery of New London, CT for a special series of events this year. In February, the WCC's ambassador program came to Spirit Gallery for a private artist event - the first half of an exciting charity fundraiser for their cause! On February 6, twenty artists gathered at Spirit Gallery to learn more about wolves, their important place in our natural ecosystem, and what we can do to help preserve and honor these amazing animals. WCC's Ambassador Wolf, Atka, was brought in to meet the artists and pose for some amazing artwork reference photos.
The artists used this unique opportunity to see an arctic wolf up close and under controlled lighting circumstances to gather references for paintings, sculptures, and drawings. Photographers took some great shots to share with other artists in different mediums, and to show to the public this fall, when the second half of the series will take place.

Seven months after the first half of the event, in September 2010, all of Spirit Gallery's artists will have had time to produce some great work featuring Atka. Spirit Gallery will be holding an entire show on wolves from September 18th though October 23rd. All of the art will have used references of this beautiful white wolf, Atka. This will be the first show that Spirit Gallery will hold as a charity auction. People may bid on each piece for as much as they like, and artists will give Spirit Gallery a minimum price for each work of art. If a piece receives 5 bids on paper, then all of those who have bid that item will be invited to Spirit Gallery's final live auction to have a chance to bid higher and take the artwork home. All of the proceeds of these artworks will go to the Wolf Conservation Center, so bidders know their money is going to a great cause, and will receive a tax-deduction receipt for their purchases.
Perhaps the most incredible feature of the show is that the WWC and Atka will be returning to Spirit Gallery on Saturday, September 2, for a public event! It's true - you can purchase a ticket for a seat at this educational seminar and see Atka up close and personal while the show of paintings, sculptures and drawings are displayed.
Spread the word about this great chance to spend an afternoon with a wolf, and contact Spirit Gallery (using the information, or the link, below) if you are an artist or know of an artist who would like to participate in the show. While the photo shoot has passed, Spirit Gallery is happy to send a CD of reference images to anyone who wishes to donate a piece or two to the charity show.
