Business Buzz - Hot Rod Cafe

Established in downtown New London in 2005, Hot Rod Cafe is a fun, family friendly restaurant and sports bar featuring more than 25 varieties of its famous wings.

Rod Cornish, a native of New London, is the owner of Hot Rod Cafe. Rod earned his Bachelor's Degree in Finance at the University of Connecticut and his MBA from the University of Michigan. After a number of years in the corporate world, most recently with Merrill Lynch in New Jersey and New York, he decided he wanted something more and took "a year" off to enjoy life. After spending time in Europe, he returned with the idea of starting a restaurant/bar similar to the ones he enjoyed while living in Manhattan.

Rod attended bartending school and the culinary program at Grasso Tech to learn the basics of the trade and then went on to work at several local establishments to sharpen his skills. Several years later, the right opportunity arose and Hot Rod Cafe was born. From the beginning, a loyal following developed consisting of an eclectic group of people. Hot Rod's developed a reputation as a comfortable and fun place with a friendly staff and great wings. The business has grown each year - as has the wing menu.

Recently relocated to 114 Bank Street in the heart of downtown New London, Hot Rod's has a waterfront deck, a full menu and bar, two separate levels, the same friendly staff and lots of fun stuff to do, including board games, a Nintendo Wii, a Lego table for the little ones, a pool table, darts, a giant chess board and more!

During Main Street's 2009 Fall Food Stroll, Hot Rod Cafe won the 2nd Place Award of Excellence for their assortment of wings. Well deserved, Rod!

If you haven't experienced Hot Rod Cafe yet, you are missing out on a New London tradition!
