All About Connecticut

If youre looking for something uniquely Connecticut, come to downtown New London. There, Barbara Ford has created CONNfetti, a store that focuses on Connecticut made and/or themed merchandise.
CONNfetti has been in business for about 18 months. Barbara set up in New London because she loves the character and architecture this city offers. She also remembers being a little girl and going to New London to shop with her mom; then the city was filled with stores and you could find just about anything you needed.
Barbara feels that being near the transportation center and the waterfront is a real advantage. She loves that the community has been so welcoming to her. She said that New London Main Street has been wonderful in helping to promote her business and provide her with the support she has needed.
The name for the store brings to focus what the store is all about Connecticut. The original tagline for the store was celebrate our state, and the idea of a celebration made Barbara think of confetti. She used two ns to bring the focus back to Connecticut, and a New London native designed the stores logo.
The merchandise comes from all over the state. CONNfetti carries merchandise from individual crafters and Connecticut factories. Barbara normally finds new merchants through internet searches, word of mouth and suggestions. What she carries depends largely on the price point expensive items tend to move more slowly than inexpensive mementos, which appear to be more in demand.
The merchandise within the store is varied. One can find Hosmer Mountain Soda, Fascias Chocolates, Miss Hortencias Hot Sauce and Giffs Original salsas and relishes. One might find Connecticut themed puzzles, Connecticut River Candles which are made from hand poured soy, or note cards. The note cards are made by Connecticut crafters; some of the most popular ones feature New London themes and are made by Lynda Wesley McLaughlin.
As for Barbara Ford herself, shes a mother of two and a grandmother of one. She grew up in Groton and now lives in Waterford. She thought that New London had a void when it came to retail, and she wanted to try something different, so she opened CONNfetti.
CONNfettis only employee is Barbara herself, and shes hoping to hire another worker at some point.
