Spring Food Stroll 2008
Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 5:30-8:30 PM Spring will officially kick off in The District at New London Main Street's annual Spring Food Stroll. Whether you're scoping out The District's summer hot spots or just a food lover, this "Seaside Stroll" will show attendees all this waterfront downtown has to offer! Last spring, over 950 Strollers sampled dishes from at least 30 downtown restaurants, cafes, and nightclubs. Despite the tremendous array of food, strollers worked up their appetites throughout the evening to enjoy snacks and specials ranging from mini-massages to free video emailing services provided by over two dozen downtown shops and galleries. Download the map of this year's venues (PDF, 420 KB) or see below for a list of participating restaurants and merchants.
This spring's "Seaside Stroll" will commemorate New London's rich maritime history in honor of the Custom House's 175th Anniversary. Dishes will feature the bounty of the sea, as in Tony D's popular calamari, but will also highlight the cuisines brought to our town from far away lands across the great pond. The music filling the streets will also have a salty flavor, with sea chanteys and ballads that feature the instruments taken aboard tall ships—from tin whistles to bones.
The Spring Food Stroll is sponsored by the City of New London, The Day, Cross Sound Ferry, Block Island Express, Citizens Bank, Pfizer, and the Buscetto Family Fund.
Admission buttons are $25 in advance, $30 on Stroll day. Admission includes a free drink coupon. Buttons for full-time undergraduate students and children are $15, but do not include a drink coupon. (Please bring a student ID to receive your discount.) The new District Map & Guide (designed by Smizer Perry), and a map showing the location of all Food Stroll venues, will be available in all venues on Stroll night.
