Fish Tales, Tugs & Sails 2006

Fish Tales, Tugs & Sails 2008 will be held Saturday, July 26, 2008!

Sunday, August 13, 2006, 1-4 PM Fish Tales, Tugs & Sails, a children's party on the pier, takes place at Waterfront Park, City Pier. Features include two tugboats, the Patricia Ann and the John Paul, sponsored by Cross Sound Ferry and Thames Towboat Company. Children will have a chance to meet the captain and crew of each tugboat.

Project Oceanography will offer tours of their research vessel, featuring sea critter touch tanks. T-Bone, America's musical Pied Piper, will perform throughout the afternoon, and there will be storytelling and other activities geared for children, such as balloon sculpting and giant bubbles. Staff and volunteers from the Children's Museum of SECT, the New London Public Library, and the Mitchell College Children's Learning Center will be on hand to take part in activities. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Christopher Clouet will read Little Toot in English and Spanish.

For boating enthusiasts, the Mystic Whaler will return from a sail to its new home port at City Pier around 3 PM. New London Community Boating will showcase their sailing program and run sailboat races along the Thames River all afternoon.

Pizza, chips and soda from Captain's Pizza and ice cream from Michael's Dairy will be for sale.

All events will be held on City Pier and City Pier Plaza.

Fish Tales, Tugs & Sails is sponsored by Cross Sound Ferry Services, Thames Towboat Company, The Day, and Bank of America, and produced by New London Main Street and Mitchell College's Children's Learning Center.

Anyone interested in helping out at the Main Street hospitality table from 1 to 4 PM can contact Joanne Gibson, Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers will hand out brochures, answer questions, direct people, and sell New London Main Street posters.
